Comunidad Sol
Comunidad Sol is a grassroots organization located in northeast Ohio, United States, formed by displaced Indigenous peoples from the ancestral lands of the K'iche', Ixil, and Awakateko (Guatemala). Our organization was created in response to the historical processes of genocide, territorial dispossession, cultural loss, and the systematic oppression accompanying displacement, all of which have deeply affected our communities.
From a collective resistance perspective, we work to restore historical justice and promote the holistic well-being of our peoples. We are dedicated to revitalizing our Maya worldview, strengthening our languages, and preserving our ancestral traditions. Additionally, we undertake actions to ensure the physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental health of our communities.
We fight to make visible our realities and challenge the narratives imposed by colonial structures, such as the labels "Latino" or "Hispanic," which do not reflect our identities or histories.
Our goal is to unite and mobilize displaced Indigenous peoples in Ohio, creating organized community networks that defend our human and collective rights.

Mission Statement
At Comunidad Sol, our mission is to recover and preserve the knowledge, languages, and traditions of our peoples, which have been deeply affected by colonization. We seek to heal historical wounds and promote the holistic well-being of our communities, always guided by our Indigenous worldview. We are committed to honoring the memory and struggle of our ancestors, strengthening our cultural identity, and protecting our physical, emotional, and spiritual health.
Vision Statement:
We envision a future where displaced Indigenous peoples live in autonomous communities, where their languages, cultures, and histories are respected and protected. We dream of a world where our voices are heard and where we are recognized and correctly referred to as Displaced Indigenous Peoples in Abya Yala (United States). We want a future where our collective rights are fully recognized, and we can live with dignity and equity.
We aspire to a society where future generations grow up proud of their heritage and in harmony with nature, contributing to the creation of a more just and balanced world.
