Welcome

Comunidad Sol, founded in 2023, is a 501(c)(3) grassroots organization made up of Maya women and youth displaced in Ohio, grandchildren of survivors of the genocide in Guatemala (1980–1983). We work together to strengthen our identity, create spaces for dialogue and collective action, and make our voices visible in the face of discrimination and persecution of Indigenous migrant communities.

Our Mission
We mobilize the Maya community through dialogues that identify barriers and injustices, teach about our rights, and reclaim our identity. We create workshops, intergenerational gatherings, and community gardens, strengthening participation and building solutions from within the community. We support emerging leaders to advocate for justice and visibility while celebrating our culture through art, music, clothing, and other expressions as acts of resistance.

Our Vision
A Maya community that recognizes itself, expresses itself, and acts collectively. A community that builds solutions to injustices, strengthens internal solidarity, shares its culture as resistance, and works alongside allies to promote justice, participation, and full recognition in society.
